She Lost One

Madi lost her 1st tooth!!
It has been loose for a while now so the night before when she was eating corn on the cob really seemed to do the trick. She was wiggling it with her tongue and it was practically out, just hanging on by a thread. I asked her if she wanted to pull it out or me.....she went in the bathroom tried a couple times then said she was ready for me to try. I just gave it a little tug and out it came. Madi said she thought it would hurt and bleed a lot but was glad it didn't when it was out.
What does a 5 year old do when she looses her first tooth? She calls Grandma & Grandpa and Nana & Papa to share the news that the Tooth Fairy will be coming to her house tonight. It was so cute when she brought me the phone and said," I really need to call them and tell them what's going to happen tonight!"

While she was settling down and finding just the right spot for her special pillow I was telling her how exciting it is that she will be getting her permanent teeth in and now it's even more important that ever to floss and brush her teeth. She leaned over in my ear and whispered, "I don't want to grow any more teeth." And off she drifted to sleep.

All Cut Off

Madi has been talking about donating her hair for about a year now....seriously. We saw pictures of kids with their cut off pony tails in "her salon" (as she says) and she asked what they were doing with their hair. I explained to her about donating her hair and showed her some more pictures on the Internet. She was sold instantly....she asked when could she donate hers to a little girl for a wig. Well for her last hair cut 6 months ago I asked her if she was ready and she said , "not just yet mom, maybe next time." Which was fine with me because Madi has really great hair (she didn't get that from me) and I love creating new hairstyles and of course putting lots of bows in her hair.
It was time for another hair cut just before summer so I asked her again if she was ready to donate her hair. Surprisingly she said, "yep, let's go to my salon." Off we went.
I let her get the works since she made such a special decision....she deserved special treatment.
Now for the before (not usually wavy but we'd just taken braids out) and ever shocking after:

She definitely looks like a 5 year old, but isn't it so cute?! When we were done at the salon I couldn't help but constantly touch it and feel how soft it was. After a few strokes Madi turned around, took my hand off her hair and said very bluntly, "Don't ruin the poof." I think I will have my hands full here in a few years!

I Can't Believe our baby is 5!!

I bet if you ask any mother what one of the best moments of her life was, I believe without hesitation she would tell you the birth of her child. I will be the first to tell you that when my precious little Madi was born-it topped the charts for me on my best moments. Today she turned 5 and I cried....yes it's true, just the day made me cry...and she wasn't even out of bed yet! I can still remember my water breaking, riding in the car to the hospital, pushing for 4 1/2 hours, then ending up with her being born via c-section (not what i had planned but that's how life goes), coming home and finding out my incision was infected, having a colicy baby for days and days that turned into 6 months, awww then she finally slept. And now she's 5!! I wouldn't trade the past 5 years of her life for anything!!

She went from this wide-eyed little bundle of heaven..........
.....to this magnificant, loving 5 year old piece of heaven (still wide-eyed)
Here are 5 reasons why we love you so much Madilyn Nikole....

1. You still love to snuggle

2. You have a thirst for knowlegde and love to share your thoughts

3. You have such a tender heart and are so loving to your family and friends

4. You light up the room with your big blue eyes and sweet smile

5. Your sense of humor gets everyone laughing...even your silly knock knock jokes

But above all else we love you because you are you and we thank the Lord every single day that we have you to love forever and always!! Happy 5th Birthday Madi!

Madi's 5th Birthday Party

Madi is really into gymnastics right now. She takes classes at Desert Devils and just loves it. We found out that they do birthday parties there and Madi was all over it. She was so excited for her party and for her friends to come and see where she has so much fun. We had her party on a Sunday so there wasn't anybody else around except for our group. The coach that was helping with the party's name was Maddie too...which put a huge grin on Madi's face when she found out.

The kids were able to do everything in the gym....and really I mean everything. There was lots of jumping, stretching, tumbling, bar swinging, rock climbing, bouncing, sliding, balance beaming, ring spinning, obstacle course doing and pit jumping!! I'm sure I missed a few but sheesh it was a blast. I think the adults had as much fun watching all the kids doing their gymnastics and the kids had doing it.
After an hour 1/2 of doing all of the above we went upstairs for cupcakes and presents. I really think that the kiddos ate as fast as they could and helped Madi open her presents quickly so they could go back out on the floor for a few minutes before they left. We really had such a fun time with the friends and family that were there. Thank you everyone for coming and helping make this a very memorable birthday for our princess!

AMAZING JAKES

We have a tradition in our family to let the birthday person choose where they would like to go eat for their birthday. Madi chose Amazing Jakes for her birthday dinner...which shouldn't come as a surprise that she tries to make her birthday celebration last as long as possible (i think she gets it from me). We invited Madi's cousins that live in town since they weren't able to make it to her gymnastics party. They all had such a great time. If you've never been there I highly recommend it as a fun family activity!

They went on every ride they could and ate lots and lots of the self serve ice cream in the little cones that was just the right size. Madi was so excited for the bumper cars that she didn't even mind waiting in line for 45 minutes. It seemed to be worth the wait. She had a perma-smile on her face after. I tried to get a picture while they were going around the track but they were too fast for my camera. If you look at the blurry picture above, Madi and Brady are in the blue bumper car, just about to pass Nana and Bella in the black car.

After hours of fun it was time to go home and of course you couldn't leave without another kid size ice cream cone!!

First Swim of the Season

Madi has been taking swimming lessons for a couple months now and she thought it was time to finally be able to get into Nana and Papa's pool since it has been hot for a few days in a row. She's is a very good swimmer and absolutely loves the water...just like her mom. We took the plunge and decided to let her give it a try (and try out Nana and Papa's new pebble tech). As you can see she loved it....who'd a thought!

She loves to swim, float, jump, dive.....you name it....as long as she's in the pool she loves it!
We are very excited for a great summer and many more trips to the pool!

1st Swim of the Season

We are so happy that Nana and Papa have a pool and that they live so close!! This was Madi's first swim of the season and she had such a blast. She has become quite the little fish and just loves the water. Which makes me so happy because I am a big fan of water myself ;)
I'm sure Madi would be very content being a mermaid and never having to get out of the water! Every summer we consider getting a pool ourselves....we start talking about what it would take to maintain it all year round....we reconsider and are very content going to Nana and Papas for a good swim. Maybe next year...
